To remove subtitles from a video, first find out which kind they are. Soft subtitles are a separate track: your player lets you switch them off, and nothing needs erasing. Burned-in (hardcoded) subtitles are part of the picture: the cleanest fix is to export your video again from the original project without them; if you only have the finished file, the video eraser can erase a fixed caption you click, for videos of 30 seconds or less. Use it only on videos that belong to you.
Soft or burned-in?
| Soft subtitles | Burned-in subtitles | |
|---|---|---|
| What they are | A separate track in the file or a separate .srt file | Pixels drawn on every frame |
| How to tell | The player has a subtitles button or menu and you can switch them off | No setting changes them; they stay on every player |
| What to do | Switch them off in the player | Export again without them, or try the eraser |
Erase burned-in subtitles with the eraser
- Cut the video to 30 seconds or less with Trim video, keeping the part where the subtitle appears.
- Open the eraser, drop the video, then press Play and pause on a frame where the subtitle is clearly visible.
- Tap the subtitle on the picture; if it is large or long, tap several parts of it (8 points at most).
- Press “Erase the object” and wait: usually 1 to 2 minutes for a 30-second video, sometimes 4 to 5 minutes when the server has to wake up.
- Watch the whole result before downloading it, then download the video.
Honest warning: the eraser follows one object. A fixed caption or a bar works best; subtitles whose words change every few seconds are the hardest case, and you may need to work on short parts. A dedicated text mode is being prepared and is not available yet.
