To convert EPUB to PDF for free, drop the book above, choose a page size (A5, A4, 6 × 9 in or Letter) and a text size, then click Convert. The book is read and laid out in your browser — nothing is uploaded — into a PDF with real, selectable text, the book's images, page numbers, each chapter on a new page and the table of contents as PDF bookmarks. Alice's Adventures in Wonderland, for example, becomes a 102-page A5 PDF of about 1 MB in a few seconds.
What the PDF keeps
| Kept | Not kept | |
|---|---|---|
| Text | All the text, selectable and searchable; bold and italics | The book's own fonts and colours (one clear font is used throughout) |
| Structure | Headings, paragraphs, lists, quotations, a new page for each chapter | Complex tables (rows become lines of text) |
| Navigation | Table of contents as PDF bookmarks; title and author in the PDF properties | Clickable links inside the text and footnote links |
| Images | JPG and PNG as they are; GIF, WebP and SVG redrawn by the browser | Images that cannot be read (the page tells you how many) |
Which page size to choose
- A5 (default): the size of a paperback — comfortable on a tablet and for printing two pages per A4 sheet.
- 6 × 9 in: the usual size of self-published paperbacks.
- A4 or Letter: printing at home or reading on a large screen; pick 12 or 14 pt text so lines are not too long.
- Text size: 10 to 14 pt. Larger text means more pages: useful for reading on a phone or for low vision.
Books that will not convert
- Protected books (DRM): most books bought from Kindle, Kobo, Apple Books or Google Play are encrypted and only open in their apps. The tool detects this and says so; it does not remove protection.
- Fixed-layout books (comics, picture books, some textbooks): the text and images are extracted and reflowed, so the original page design is lost — you are warned when this is the case.
- Damaged files: if the EPUB does not open in an ebook reader either, it cannot be converted.
DRM-free EPUBs — Project Gutenberg, Standard Ebooks, many independent publishers, books you wrote yourself — convert normally.
EPUB or PDF?
Keep the EPUB for reading on an e-reader or phone: the text adapts to the screen. Use the PDF to print, to annotate in any PDF app, to share a book with someone who has no ebook reader, or to send it for a print-on-demand proof. To shrink the result afterwards, use Compress PDF.
Limits
- File size: up to 200 MB per EPUB.
- Books protected by DRM are refused; the page then tells you so.
