Translate a PDF and keep the layout

Translate a PDF into French, English, Spanish, German, Italian, Portuguese or Dutch: the original text is replaced in place, images and layout kept. No sign-up, processed on your device.

Accepted: PDF · Max 95.4 MB per file

Processed on your device: the PDF is not uploaded.

Limits: 100 MB and 200 pages maximum. A scanned PDF (an image with no text) must go through OCR first. Complex layouts (tight columns, tables, text inside images) are rendered imperfectly. A single replacement font is used: the original font is not reproduced, and the text is written in black.

Everything happens on your device: your PDF is never uploaded. Only the translation models (≈ 115 MB per language pair, once) are downloaded from our site.

How to translate a PDF

  1. Drop your PDF (selectable text, not a scan): its language is detected automatically.

  2. Pick the target language and click "Translate the PDF" (the translation models download once).

  3. Compare page 1 before and after, then download the translated PDF and proofread it.

What this tool does

The layout stays
Each paragraph is retranslated in place, with the size adjusted to fit; images, logos and drawings do not move.
The original text is really removed
The source text is taken out of the file (not hidden under a white box): select or copy and you only find the translation.
7 languages
French, English, Spanish, German, Italian, Portuguese and Dutch, both ways; the source language is detected for you.
Nothing is uploaded
Reading, translating and laying out all happen on your device: your document never leaves your browser.

Frequently asked questions

How do I translate a PDF and keep the layout?

Drop the PDF, pick the target language and start the translation. Each paragraph is read with its position and size, translated, then rewritten at exactly the same place; images, logos and drawings do not move.

Is the original text really removed?

Yes. The source text is taken out of the page content before the translation is written, with no white box on top: copy or search the text in the result and you only find the translation.

Why is the font different?

A single replacement font is used for every language: the original font is not reproduced, and the text is written in black. The size is reduced (down to 60%) when the translation is longer than the original text.

My PDF is scanned, what can I do?

A scan only contains images, with no text to translate. Run it through the OCR tool first to get a PDF with text, then translate it. Complex layouts (tight columns, tables, text inside images) may be imperfect.

Is my document uploaded to a server?

No. Everything happens on your device. Only the translation models (about 115 MB per language pair, once) are downloaded from our site. The translation is automatic: proofread it, especially for an important document. Limit: 100 MB and 200 pages.
